Walk us through your career journey.
I started as an associate project engineer, performing preventive maintenance of PCs, laptops, printers, and other devices.
I transitioned to a customer support engineer role at another organization, which enhanced my ability to effectively address client concerns. My career then progressed to a technical support analyst role, troubleshooting a wide range of technical problems.
Next, I became an IT help desk coordinator, leading a global team. Managing a team spread across different time zones required strong organizational and leadership abilities.
I then joined CSC as an assistant manager with the service desk, where I oversaw service desk operations, improved service delivery, and managed team performance. Now I lead the User Access Management Team. I’m dedicated to assembling a high-performing team to enhance the security and efficiency of our identity and access management processes.
What drew you to pursue a career in technology?
I’ve always had a deep curiosity about how systems work and a passion for solving complex problems. From an early age, I was fascinated by technology’s potential to transform and improve various aspects of life.
What are some significant challenges you’ve faced as a woman in tech?
I’ve never considered being a woman in tech to be a hindrance. My parents, colleagues, and leaders have always supported me wholeheartedly, reinforcing the belief that women can excel just as well as men in any field, including tech. Their encouragement and the freedom they provided me shaped my perspective.
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be challenging. How do you prioritize your personal life while excelling in your career?
I’m deeply passionate about my work outcomes, which occasionally extends into my personal time. However, I manage my work while still prioritizing my personal life by setting boundaries and schedule dedicated time for both work and personal activities.
What strategies do you use to continually develop your skills and advance your career?
Continuous learning and adaptability are critical in the tech field, and improvement is an essential component of career advancement. Sharpening your skills is also very crucial for successful career growth. I never hesitate to learn about new areas or technologies, which allows me to stay informed about the latest trends and innovations.
Self-awareness is also crucial for career development. I set specific goals for improvement and actively seek feedback from colleagues and mentors to identify areas for growth. This helps me to continually refine my skills and address any gaps in my knowledge.
Based on your experience, what advice would you give to other women aspiring to pursue a career in technology?
I’ve never faced a situation where being a woman was seen as a barrier to pursuing my goals in technology. My advice is to trust your instincts and follow your passion.
Have you had any mentors or supportive figures throughout your career?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive support from numerous people who’ve shaped my journey. Each mentor offered unique insights that collectively helped me develop a well-rounded skill set. I also benefited from the guidance of managers who excelled in different areas—managing people, ensuring client satisfaction, and enhancing my technical expertise. They also provided valuable lessons in prioritizing work effectively.
