A friend introduced me to the director of this team and by that time I had nearly given up hope of getting a job, to be honest but then this miracle called ‘CSC’ happened.
What is your full title and how long have you been in your current position?
I joined CSC in June 2022 and was recently promoted to manager, Fund Solutions in Mumbai.
Give us some insight into your role and what you do.
I’m part of a team that manages private equity fund accounting. We cut out the NAV for the fund and prepare quarterly management accounts. We also provide the client with financial statements, audit services, and support payments and other activities for the fund.
The first nine months of the year are very busy with audits and other fund work. During the last quarter of the year, when we’re not as busy, we focus on training, improving our management accounts, automation, and other work.
Why did you choose to work for CSC?
I had more than eight years of work experience and enjoyed working in different cultures. With my previous companies, I worked in the U.K. and the U.S. on long term assignments. I later got married and when I was expecting my first child, we moved back to India. I had my child in 2019 and wanted to spend quality time at home. I was on maternity break when the pandemic struck, and it was very hard to find a position—especially after a three-year gap. There were no vacancies for someone at my level and who wasn’t a lateral in the market. A friend introduced me to the director of this team and by that time I had nearly given up hope of getting a job, to be honest but then this miracle called ‘CSC’ happened.
What has your career growth looked like at CSC? Is there a particular person who has helped you? How have they helped?
The director I spoke with before I joined CSC was instrumental in my career growth. He said it’s okay if people take career breaks, it’s fine. It’s not a full stop in your professional life. He understood that companies weren’t hiring during the pandemic and didn’t hold the career gap against me.
What is the work-life balance like?
We’re flexible with schedules. Our team works a U.K. schedule, so our shift is 12-9 p.m. If I have deliverables I leave work to get home in time and complete tasks at home. In times of emergencies the company is flexible with working from home.
The flexibility is great, and I have a sense of belonging, that people understand me. I feel like people trust us to be professionals.
What makes your team different?
Everyone in our team has a finance background, but we are also very different from each other, different types of personalities, and from different states and professional backgrounds. For example, I didn’t have private equity work experience when I joined CSC, but I was given the opportunity to join the team. I have a hedge fund background. People are from diverse backgrounds here, but we’re all working together, facing challenges together and solving things together and that is important—being a support to people in your team and learning together.
What gets you excited about coming to work in the morning?
When I log in, I wonder, “What emails have come in? What new challenge is going to be set up for me today?” Does a client need something? Is there a deliverable that must be completed? It’s never the same thing. It’s a different client issue, a different request, something new, something that you haven’t dealt with before. Sometimes I’m Googling a term I’m not familiar with. It’s never monotonous, and that’s exciting.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to join CSC or your team?
Go for it! I would especially advise women with a home and children to consider CSC. For women who are starting the second inning of their career, like me, and getting back to work, this is a great company. Everyone at CSC made me feel very comfortable. I wasn’t treated differently or looked down upon for the three-year gap, nothing like that.
The then VP of the team, who is also a woman with a child, helped me in getting used to being part of the workforce again. The first six months were challenging because it was like starting all over again and managing work and home, but then everything fell into place, and I found a place for myself in this industry.
